Faculty
The faculty of this specialization is made up of 32% full-time professors from ITESO's Department of Electronics, Systems and Informatics (DESI), and 68% part-time professors or industry participants. 56% of faculty members have a PhD, and 44% have a Master's degree. 68% of the faculty are active technology professionals in the fields of design, verification, and testing of integrated circuits and systems-on-chip, who work for companies related to this graduate program; the remaining 32% are researchers with national and international recognition.

Omar Longoria Gándara, PhD (Coordinator)
PhD and Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, option in Telecommunications, from CINVESTAV-IPN, Guadalajara. Member of the National System of Researchers. His lines of research include MIMO channel estimation, implementation of embedded communication algorithms for wireless communications and high-speed transmission lines, as well as digital algorithms using hardware description languages.
Cuauhtémoc Aguilera Galicia, PhD
PhD in Engineering Science and Master's degree in Industrial Electronics from ITESO. He has a solid track record in teaching digital systems using hardware description languages and programmable logic devices; he has 19 years of undergraduate and graduate teaching experience in the field of digital design. He has directed several graduate and undergraduate-level dissertations, and has several publications in the field of neural networks. His line of doctoral research is in Networks-on-Chip.
Víctor Avendaño Fernández, PhD
PhD in Electronic Sciences from the National Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics Institute (INAOE), Puebla, Mexico. He was a guest researcher at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Spain. He has several publications at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. Backed by 11 years of industry experience, he currently holds the position of System Validation Engineer at Intel working on server validation. Previously held the position of Senior IC Design Engineer at Freescale Semiconductor Mexico for 10 years, where he was responsible for implementing and verifying test-oriented design (JTAG, SCAN, and design for testability) of SerDes systems, in order to integrate them into multicore network processors.
Zabdiel Brito Brito, PhD
PhD in Signal and Communications Theory from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Spain. He has been a member of the National System of Researchers of CONACYT since 2012. He has over 10 years of teaching experience and numerous scientific publications. His main lines of research include the design and optimization of high-speed interconnection circuits and devices, as well as reconfigurable, microwave and RF systems.
José Luis Chávez Hurtado, PhD
PhD in Engineering Sciences and Master's Degree in Electronic Design from ITESO, Master's Degree in Business and Economic Studies from the University of Guadalajara. He has presented numerous internationally peer-reviewed papers at conferences and published articles in peer-reviewed journals. His research focuses on the use of CAD tools for modeling and optimizing electronic circuits. He is currently a professor in the Department of Electronics, Systems and Informatics; a member of the basic academic unit of the Doctorate in Engineering Sciences; and a member of the Research Group for Computer-Aided Engineering of Circuits and Systems (CAECAS).
Esteban Martinez Guerrero, PhD
PhD in integrated electronic devices from the Institut National des Sciencies Appliquées (INSA), in Lyon France, Master's degree in Science from CINVESTAV-Mexico City, and a specialization in integrated circuit design from ITESO. He has over 14 years of teaching experience, and numerous publications in scientific journals in the areas of semiconductor physics, electronic device modeling and design, and JCR-catalogued analog integrated circuit design. He has worked at ITESO since 2002. He has directed several graduate and specialization-level dissertations, and is currently directing PhD-level dissertations. He has taught several courses at ITESO on integrated analog circuit design in the Master's degree in Electronic Design, the Specialization in Integrated Circuit Design, and several undergraduate courses in basic analog electronics. He has led and collaborated on various CONACYT-funded research projects. He was a level 1 member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of the National Council for Science and Technology from 2004 to 2010. He has been a Senior member of the IEEE since 2013.
Ernesto Rayas Sánchez, PhD
PhD in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University, Canada. Numerary professor at ITESO, and a member of the MMT-1 on CAD of the IEEE Microwave Society. He coordinates the IEEE MTT-S for Latin America. His research focuses on the development of computer methods for the modeling, design, and optimization of high-frequency electronic circuits, including high-speed interconnection structures, as well as RF, microwave, and integrated analog circuits. He directs the Research Team of Computer-Assisted Engineering for Circuits and Systems (CAECAS, in its initials in Spanish) at ITESO.
Manuel Salím Maza, PhD
PhD in Electronics and Master's degree in Science from the National Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics Institute (INAOE), Puebla, Mexico. He was a Senior Engineer for Integrated Circuit Design at Freescale Semiconductor Mexico for 9 years (2005-2013). He has worked at Intel-GDC as TEchnical Forum Leader and Validation Lead for Electrical Validation for Servers and Microservers (2014-2016). He is now with Wirpo-NXP as VLSI Technical Lead. He has several publications at international conferences, and has taught courses in the field of digital integrated circuit design at ITESO's Specialization in Integrated Circuit Design. He has directed 8 specialization dissertations on topics such as the Analysis and characterization of cells for SerDes systems, clock distribution, e I/Os transmitters, advanced VLSI technologies, and videogame console design.
Federico Lobato López (PhD candidate)
PhD candidate in Electronics and Master's degree in Science from the National Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics Institute (INAOE), Puebla, Mexico. He has worked at Freescale (formerly Motorola) since 2000. He has a solid track record in the design of Clock Drivers, Zero-Delay Buffers, and Frequency Synthesizers based on technologies such as SiGe:C and CMOS, PLLs, CODECs and Serializer/Deserializer (SerDes) IP blocks; he also has experience in the design of Mixed-Mode and Mixed-Level simulation (Spice-VerilogA-Matlab). He has led several projects at Freescale, such as "DDR2 Clock Driver" (nominated as No. 1 PLL performance in 2005 by Micron), "the Lynx 4, Receiver and Transmitter I/O buffers for the 8311/13/15 Network Processors (90nm-CMOS)"; "OMI3 and Lynx9 (65nm-CMOS-SOI)"; y "Lynx14/15 for the network processor MPC8569 and P2020 (45nm-CMOS-SOI)". He currently holds the position of IC Design Manager for the Mixed Signal IC Design Team at Freescale Mexico. He has several publications at prestigious international conferences, has taught several courses in the field of analog integrated circuits for ITESO graduate programs, and has directed several dissertations for ITESO's specialization in integrated circuit design.
Esdras Juárez Hernández, MS
Master's degree in Science from the National Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics Institute (INAOE), Puebla, Mexico. He has worked at Intel GDC since 2004, developing analog and mixed-signal blocks for high-speed SerDes systems. He has been a leader and collaborator on different research projects at INAOE and the Benemerita Universidad de Puebla. He has extensive experience in Verilog and VerilogA, IBIS modeling, and other integrated circuit verification methodologies. He has several publications at prestigious international congresses, has given lectures, and has taught many courses in the field of integrated circuit design. He has also directed various specialization dissertations. He is currently a Senior Design Engineer and Technical Leader at Freescale Mexico.
Dr. Jorge Edgar Zárate Roldán
PhD in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University, Specialization in Integrated Circuit Design from ITESO and Bachelor's Degree in Electronic and Communications Engineering from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Guadalajara Campus.
His field of specialization is integrated circuit design, specifically radio frequency applications for Wifi and Bluetooth (classic BT and low-energy BLE). He currently works for Infineon Technologies in the United States.
