Mónica Solórzano Gil, PhD (Coordinator)
PhD in Architecture (UNAM), Master's Degree in Architecture, Research and Restoration of Sites and Monuments (UMSNH), Bachelor in Architecture (ITESO). She is a professor at ITESO and leads the Professional Application Projects "Mariachi Greenway" and "Chapala Greenway". Lines of research: Industrial and railway heritage and culture, and the reuse and rehabilitation of heritage.
Gerardo Bernache Pérez, PhD (Advisor)
He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Guadalajara in 1985; in the same year he entered the direct PhD program offered by the Department of Anthropology of the University of Arizona in Tucson. He obtained his PhD in 1994, and started working at CIESAS Occidente, with the support of the Repatriation Program of the National Science and Technology Council. From 1986 to 1994, he worked as a research assistant for Professor William Rathje, the pioneer in the study of garbage in the United States. With Professor Rathje's Garbage Project, he conducted research in the cities of Tucson, Phoenix, New Orleans, Chicago, Sunnyvalley and New York. In addition, from 1987 to 1991 he joined a team from "Centro Eco" that did research on solid waste in Mexico City, under the guidance of Dr. Iván Restrepo.
Rodrigo Flores Elizondo, PhD (Professor)
PhD in Socio-scientific Studies (ITESO), Master's degree in Social Philosophy (ITESO) and Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering (Universidad de las Americas). He coordinates the ITESO Sustainability Program. He belongs to the National System of Researchers (SNI). Lines of research: Socioeconomics and the environment, social management of water, regional economic studies, education and labor markets.
Jaime Morales Hernández, PhD (Guest professor)
PhD in Agroecology from the University of Cordoba, Spain, which made him an expert in agroecology and sustainable rural development. He wrote the book "Rural societies and nature", edited by ITESO/UIA in 2004, and co-edited the book "Rural sustainability and local development in Southern Jalisco", edited by ITESO in 2006.
Sarah Obregón Davis, PhD
PhD in Zoning and Urban Sustainability (Higher Technical School of Architecture of the Madrid Polytechnical University), Master's degree in Urban Planning and Development (University of Guadalajara) and Bachelor's degree in Architecture from ITESO. She has conducted research in the Department of Urban Planning and Land Management of the Madrid Polytechnic University and the Center of Andalusian Studies of the Andalusian Autonomous Community. She has held public positions in the State Government of Jalisco and the City Council of Guadalajara, and has been a consultant in the certification of Sustainable Urban Projects.
Liliana Peñuela Arévalo, PhD (Guest professor)
PhD in Geography, Master's degree in Science (Environmental Geology) from the Earth Science Program, and Bachelor's degree in Geology from the National University of Colombia. She studied a diploma course in Geomatics at UNAM. Lecturer at national and international conferences. Her work experience includes participation in various interdisciplinary projects under agreements between the Institute of Geography and government bodies such as SEMARNAT, SEDESOL, IAEA, CONACYT, INE, etc. She is a member of both the International Association of Hydrogeologists and the Mexican Alliance for a New Culture of Water.
Dr. Adolfo Preciado Quiroz (Advisor)
Civil Engineer graduated with honors by the University of Colima (2004) and Master in Civil Engineering (Seismic Protection of Buildings) in 2007 by the same University. In 2011 obtained de double PhD degree in Civil Engineering by the University of Florence, Italy and the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany in Risk Management of Natural and Man Induced Hazards on Structures and Infrastructure. In 2012 developed a two years Postdoctoral research stay at the University of Auckland, New Zealand about the seismic strengthening of historical buildings damaged by the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury earthquakes. From 2014 to the beginning of 2016 worked as a Professor-Researcher in the Polytechnical University of Guadalajara and recently is a Professor and Researcher in the DHDU of ITESO. Dr. Preciado has more than 10 years of research experience and belongs to the National System of Researchers (SNI).
Luis Ignacio Román Morales, PhD (Guest professor)
He is a full-time professor in ITESO's Department of Economics, Management and Finance. His topics of specialization are Economic Policy, Employment, and Social Policy. He obtained his PhD in Productive Structures and the Global System in the area of Economic Sciences from the University of Paris VII. He is a level II member of the National System of Researchers of the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT).
David Vargas del Río, PhD (Professor)
PhD in Marine Sciences (Polytechnic University of Catalonia), Master's degree in Science with a specialization in Geological Engineering (University of Guadalajara). He is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI), in the sub-discipline of human geography. As a qualitative and quantitative researcher, he seeks to understand and assess the close relationship that exists between social organization and the transformation of the built and natural environments, as a strategy for proposing new ways to create social-environmental relationships.
Johann Wilhelm Gottschalk, PhD (Guest professor)
PhD candidate in Economic and Administrative Sciences, CUCEA, University of Guadalajara. Master's degree in Political Economics Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. His areas of interest include economic and financial analyses and studies, and the creation of incentive systems to achieve efficient development. He has participated in projects that promote progress in developing countries. He has also studied environmental economics and international business. He has been a professor at ITESO since 2004, and specializes in Environmental Economics.
Francisco Álvarez Partida, MA (Professor)
He graduated with a degree in architecture from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO). He took various graduate courses in construction, sustainability and human rights at the Universities of Hidesheim/Holzminden, Heidelberg and Lüneburg in the German Federal Republic; in eco-technologies in Muñoztla, Tlaxcala; and at ITESO he studied the Master's degree in Applied Informatics and the Diploma Course on the Development of Academic Skills. He is currently studying the PhD in Architecture at UNAM, where his research topic is "Methodology to determine social and economic criteria and indicators for sustainable housing".
Óscar Humberto Castro (Professor)
PhD candidate in Environmental Design (University College London). He has carried out several research projects focused on the assessment of environmental, physical, and security conditions of residential developments in western Mexico, which have resulted in the redesign of living and urban prototypes of low-income developments. He provides consulting services to real estate developers in the field of environmental assessment.
Juan Jorge Hermosillo Villalobos (Guest professor)
PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering Sciences (University of Guadalajara). He is an academic and researcher in ITESO's Department of Technological and Industrial Processes. His field of expertise is related to the use of renewable sources of energy. He has participated in several projects related to the utilization of biomass and the thermal uses of solar energy since 1980.
Jorge López de Obeso, MA (Guest professor)
Master's degree in Housing and Urbanism (AA London), Bachelor's degree in Architecture (ITESO). He is a specialized consultant in the field of architectural design for energy optimization in buildings, and a reviewer for the certification of national and international green buildings. Lines of research: application of energy optimization systems, techniques and resources in architecture, LEED certification.
Mario López Ramírez (Guest professor)
Master's degree in Politics and Public Administration. He teaches Political Ecology and Geopolitics. He has studied the geopolitics and public administration of water by participating in different regional and international research projects.
Gil Humberto Ochoa González (Professor)
PhD candidate in Earth Sciences (UNAM), Master's degree in Science (Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro), and Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ITESO). He leads the Professional Application Project titled "Engineering for the Territorial Analysis of Urban Risk", and is in charge of the Geomaterials Laboratory. Lines of research: Information systems and numerical simulation for assessing underground water conditions and the risks associated with its extraction.
