Collaboration agreements
As a fundamental part of the research done at DESI, the program aims to conduct collaborative research, i.e., doing work for and with the possible direct beneficiaries of the products generated by the Department's Focuses of Generation and Application of Knowledge (FGAKs).
DESI research professors have actively participated in projects with ties to regional industry, ranging from small Mexican companies and government agencies to multinational corporations such as Qualtop, Oracle, Nokia, Digital Creative City (CCD, in its initials in Spanish), IBM, Intel, HP, Dell, among others.
Currently, the program's most active and specific collaboration agreement is with the company Oracle. We have a specific collaboration agreement to develop final degree projects in the Master's Degree in Computer Systems that are defined by and for the company, thus allowing its active employees or new students to train in specific areas of computer science, as well as to support the innovation and generation of knowledge related to the latest technology. In addition, research professors from the program's faculty participate as leaders or collaborators in two research projects with ties to this company, financed by the PROINNOVA program of the National Science and Technology Council (CONACYT, in its initials in Spanish).
Another active collaboration agreement with strong ties to the focus of generation of this graduate program is with the Creative Digital City project. The master's degree program plays an important role in this project in terms of talent management: in the first stage of the project, the specialization areas of this program will provide professionals with the necessary competencies to achieve innovation in terms of a Smart City and support for the processes of the Digital Creative Sector.
Furthermore, ITESO recently signed a collaboration agreement with Nokia and the State Government to develop mobile applications, with the aim of selling them at the online Nokia Store. This project involves professors and faculty members in the teaching of the design, development and testing of these applications, including their innovation. Participation in the development of mobile applications has already spread to other universities in the region, as well as in other cities of Mexico.
It is important to mention that two professors from the master's degree faculty collaborated for approximately two years on a project with ties to HP Labs that included the participation of nearly 10 computer systems students. One of the accomplishments of this project was a Patent Application in the United States, in addition to related publications and participation in conferences. This collaboration project was financed by the National Science and Technology Council through PROINNOVA.
Finally, it is also important to point out the relationship between DESI and CEGINT, where several faculty members participate on technological development projects with companies, primarily small and medium-sized companies. These projects are closely linked to the focus of knowledge of the Master's Degree in Computer Systems, and have been an important source of knowledge, with a direct impact on the development of the graduate program itself.
