- Edith Escalón Portilla, graduated from the program in 2012:
27th National Dissertation Award by the National Council for the Teaching and Research of Communication Sciences (CONEICC), in the category of Master's Dissertations.
Awarded first place for the dissertation titled: Reconfiguring local knowledge in knowledge interfaces: The case of scientists and fishermen in Alvarado, Veracruz, Mexico. The communication of science in marginalized communities – 60% of communities in the state of Veracruz – was the research focus of a detailed and systematic study of the conditions that allow two groups with power asymmetries to negotiate common meanings.
Susana Herrera Lima, her thesis advisor, pointed out that this dissertation represents a significant contribution for the state of Veracruz, which along with five other states of Southeastern Mexico – Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Chiapas – has made a concerted effort to professionalize their science communicators by supporting the formation of specialized human resources at ITESO.
